Beautiful city by the coastline

Lianyungang is located at northeast of Jiangsu Province. It is not just a famous historical and cultural city but also a comprehensive transportation hub that sea and land transport integrated. Lianyungang Port is one of the ten largest harbours along the coastline of China. It’s mountains, seas and harbours next to the city, together with rivers, lakes, hills, tidal flats, wetlands, and islands, have given it a reputation of being the best scenery in East Sea. The Donghai County in Lianyungang is especially known for its abundance of crystals.

Huaguo Mountain

Touted as the real location that the novel “Journey to the West” was based upon as the origin place of Monkey God, Huaguo Mountain is famous within China and afar. There are several natural scenic spots that inspired the story. Within the undulating hilly terrain of Huaguo Mountain, Yunu Ridge is the highest peak throughout Jiangsu Province with a remarkably height of 624.4m above sea level.

Seaborne Yuntai Mountain

Seaborne Yuntai Mountain was used to be an island in the sea, and was latter joint with the mainland between the 18th and 19th Century. Besides hilly topography, there are waterfall, farmyard, villages, coastal promenade and even a cargo port within this tourist hotspot, where you may behold the spectacular views of rolling greens and rippling blues.

Kongwang Mountain

This mountain is named after Confucius the philosopher who climbed the mountain to behold sea view. Here, the Buddha stone sculpture on the cliff made since the Eastern Han Dynasty is the oldest Buddhist stone sculpture ever found in China.

Qinshan Island Tourist Resort

The island is connected to the mainland through a narrow stretch of natural beach dotted with colourful pebbles which were washed ashore. There is a 20m tall natural ridge protruded from sea level, namely the “General Stone”. Take a hike to the top when it’s misty in the morning and you might be lucky to witness mirage.

Liandao Seashore Tourist Resort

This tourist site features mountain, sea, forest, stone, beach and sociocultural attractions that cater for all seasons. The beachside swimming pool is the largest natural of its kind, and the best in Jiangsu Province. Also offering a myriad of seafood, it is a favourite destination among the holidaymakers from everywhere around the world.

Xishuang Lake Scenic Area

Xishuang Lake Scenic Area is located in Donghai County. The scenic area is divided into two major areas: an ecological sightseeing park and a sports and leisure area. There are wetland park and botanical park in the ecological sightseeing park, and a water sports area and a fitness and leisure area in the sports and leisure area. It also boasts one of the largest lily gardens in China.

Lianyungang Yunwu Tea

Yuntai Mountain is highly proximate to Yellow Sea, hence being granted a humid weather. The local tea trees here are mostly shrouded in misty clouds. Yunwu Tea is the native tea produced in Lianyungang, known for its lively green texture. Listed together with Nanjing Yuhua Tea and Suzhou Biluochun Tea as the three best teas from Jiangsu Province, Lianyungang Yunwu Tea’s taste is remarkably irresistible.

Donghai Crystal

Donghai produces crystals in large amount and good quality. This is the largest crystal manufacturing market in China, once produced the largest crystal in the world as well as the crystal coffin for the late Chairman Mao.

Ganyu Pancake

Ganyu pancakes are a time-honoured cuisine in Jiangsu Province. According to records, during the Qin and Han Dynasties, the natives of Ganyu District were already eating a kind of dry food called pancakes. This pancake is said to have been invented by Zhuge Liang through wheat grinding method. It is crispy and fragrant when fried, and very chewy after cooling down. The pancake can also be used to wrap a wide variety of foods.

Mountain Chestnut

The mountain chestnut, a specialty of Yuntai Mountain in Lianyungang, together with the famous “Jiu Jia Zhong” of Suzhou are both known as the most famous chestnuts in Jiangsu Province. It has a beautiful and bright appearance, with a brown shell which is round in shape.

Spicy Fried Caterpillars

Spicy Fried Caterpillars (Doudan) is a special delicacy in Guanyun County. It is the larva of the Bean Hawk Moth which has a beautiful body similar to the silkworm. The dishes made from larva meat pulp are delicious and rich in proteins. Doudan can be cooked in various forms, such as braising, making soup, etc. Among them, stir-fried is the most common way, which tastes like scrambled eggs.
