Wu Tongjia’s Former Residence Memorial has opened!

Wu Tongjia’s Former Residence Memorial officially opened on January 29, 2021. The memorial located at the northeast corner of the intersection of Hailing North Road and Haiyang East Road. The memorial mainly divided into five part, which are “Wu’s style”, “Xuanhu Jishi” (practise medicine in order to help the people), “Hailing Culture”, “Educate People”, and “Missing My Hometown”.

Wu’s style

In the “Wu’s Style” exhibition hall, the couplet written by the social science scholar Wu Weichun has deeply summarized Wu Tongji whole life.

Xuanhu Jishi

In the medical hall, a painting of Wu Tongji treat patients created by well-known local artist Ji Feng, introduces the story of Wu Tongji dedication to healing the sick and saving others.

Hailing Cultural

Wu Tongjia participated in the founding of the Sinology Research Society in 1922, and most of the exhibits displayed in the here are the works of members of the Sinology Society.

Educate People

Wu Tongjia’s life was deeply inspired by Liu Xizai. After returning to Taizhou when he was old, he still did not forget his education career and spent most of his time building a school and educating people.

Missing My Hometown

Wu Tongjia’s former residence was restored and moved into the second floor of the building (the original site of the ancestral residence). The former residence was built in the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. In addition to its exquisite layout and detailed historical materials, the plaques written by famous artists have also become a highlight of the memorial.
